HIDEYUKI ISHIBASHI

Born in 1986 in Kobe, Japan, Hideyuki Ishibashi has been living and working in Lille since 2011. He studied photography at Nihon University in Tokyo and later at Le Fresnoy, Studio national des arts contemporains.

His work explores the connections between photography, culture, and nature, questioning how images shape our perception of reality in the digital age.
His practice combines archival and found imagery with both historical techniques and digital tools. Through a layered process of manipulation, he creates reconstructed images that blur the line between the tangible and the imaginary. His research draws on the history and philosophy of photography, focusing on its potential to bridge past and present.

His work has been exhibited widely in France, Japan, South Korea, Germany, Spain, Belgium, the Netherlands and the UK, in institutions such as Le Fresnoy, the Bibliothèque nationale de France, the CRP/ and the Institut pour la photographie. He has also participated in major events including Paris Photo, Photo Basel, and Unseen Amsterdam.

His work is part of several public and private collections, including the Bibliothèque nationale de France, the CRP/, the Pictet Collection, the Frédéric de Goldschmidt Collection, the Amana Collection and KPMG Meijburg & Co.

Currently in residence at La Pouponnière in Lille, he is preparing several projects for 2025: a cross-residency between Lille and Dorset in the UK, exhibitions at Landskrona Foto in Sweden, 9-9bis in Oignies and the Festival international de jardins et Hortillonnages Amiens, as well as the upcoming publication of his artist book Stjernhimmeln with Breadfield Press.
